Our monthly Speaker Series offers a platform for peer support, shared learning, and guidance for therapeutic team members.  This webinar series is part of our commitment to fostering a strong community of integrated behavioral health professionals.

About Carryl P. Navalta, PhD: Carryl P. Navalta, PhD, is Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Graduate Medical Sciences and a core faculty member of the Mental Health Counseling & Behavioral Medicine (MHCBM) Program at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine where he educates and trains the next generation of licensed mental health counselors. He encourages his students to adopt his guiding clinical mantra: “Assess to understand before you intervene.” Dr. Navalta’s primary research focus is exposure to trauma and adversity during childhood & adolescence and the treatment of its impact on health. He has published extensively in this field in peer-reviewed journals, is Associate Editor for BMC Psychiatry, and has several entries as primary author in The Encyclopedia of Psychological Trauma. Dr. Navalta wrote a treatment manual for clinicians on effectively working with parents who have children with trauma-related problems, Trauma-Informed Parenting Program: TIPs for Clinicians to Train Parents of Children Impacted by Trauma & Adversity (Wiley, 2022). Most recently, he is Principal Investigator for Project EDUCATE, a training collaboration of MHCBM and TEAM UP funded by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. 

About the TEAM UP Speaker Series: Produced by the TEAM UP Learning Community, the TEAM UP Speaker Series is a forum where healthcare practitioners, public health policymakers, and other leaders in the field of human service share insights, expertise, and fresh ideas. Taking care of our society’s mental and physical health and well-being is demanding and requires all the resources and support available to those providing care. The Speaker Series is at once informative and supportive, creating a space for fellow travelers to learn and grow professionally together each month. Topics reflect current trends and emerging issues in public health, innovations in care delivery, and available programs and services.
