About Ron Ferguson, PhD: Ron Ferguson is an MIT-trained social scientist whose teaching, research, and social entrepreneurship span topics ranging from economic development to school reform, to family engagement. His current priority is an initiative that he launched while Faculty Director of the Achievement Gap Initiative at Harvard, to mobilize communities for infant, toddler, and preschool learning and brain development. It operates through The Basics Inc., a nonprofit organization that he helped found and The Basics Learning Network, a community of practice with affiliated coalitions in dozens of communities in the US and abroad. Ron’s most recent book, coauthored with Tatsha Robertson and published in 2019, is The Formula: Unlocking the Secrets to Raising Highly Successful Children. He is also the co-founder of the Tripod Project for School Improvement and developer of Tripod School Surveys. He is a father and grandfather and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, before earning an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and a PhD from MIT. He retired from teaching at Harvard Kennedy School in June 2024 after 41 years on the faculty, after also teaching at Brandeis and Brown Universities.
About Kelly Rebeiro-Oliveira, MAT: Kelly Rebeiro-Oliveira serves as the Executive Director of the Coalition for Health Equity and Early Development (HEED) and The Basics Southcoast. A passionate advocate for education reform, the arts, public policy, youth development, and sustainability, Ms. Rebeiro-Oliveira has made a lasting impact through her leadership and vision.
As a former C-suite executive with Platform Learning and Edison Schools, she influenced education policy in key cities, including Manhattan, Philadelphia, Miami, and Chicago. Her commitment to holistic education and integrating fine arts into traditional learning stems from her extensive artistic background, including collaborations with The Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington, D.C.
Kelly was a double major in psychology and communications at Rutgers University, an MAT in Teaching & Curriculum from Roger Williams University, and certification as a diversity specialist from Cornell University. She also pursued master’s-level studies in public policy at the University of Massachusetts. Currently, Ms. Rebeiro is a doctoral candidate.
At HEED, Ms. Rebeiro-Oliveira leads evidence-based programs, advocacy efforts, and educational initiatives to ensure every child has a strong foundation for lifelong health, learning, and success.
About Zoë Hansen-DiBello, PhD: Zoë has more than 15 years of experience in leadership, program innovation, and partnership engagement positions. She has consistently driven strategic growth and social impact on projects involving education, systemic change and community development. After establishing a multisector regional coalition on the South Coast of Massachusetts that adopted The Basics as a strategy to optimize early development, Zoë joined The Basics Inc. national team and currently serves as the Senior Liaison to The Basics Learning Network. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Massachusetts and has served as a speaker, panelist, and advocate for a wide range of educational and social causes. A native of Providence, RI, Zoë resides in New Bedford, MA with her partner and 8-year-old daughter.
