The Survey of Well-being of Young Children (SWYC)®, a preeminent early childhood screening tool, has a new home with the TEAM UP Scaling and Sustainability Center at Boston Medical Center.
About the SWYC
Recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the SWYC is a freely available, comprehensive screening instrument for children under 5 years of age. Today, professionals around the U.S. and the world have adopted the SWYC in their practices, incorporated it into their electronic medical systems, helped to translate the SWYC into new languages, and included the SWYC in their research.
Here’s what you can expect moving forward:
-
-
- Continued access and dissemination of the SWYC at no cost
- Dedicated management of inquiries sent to the SWYC.TEAMUPCenter@bmc.org email
- Updates on recent research (and potential new opportunities)
- New and updated website
-
There are two primary reasons we are excited about this transition:
- TEAM UP’s mission aligns well with the SWYC: The co-developers of the SWYC, Drs. Ellen Perrin and Chris Sheldrick, always argued that screening worked best in the context of a comprehensive system of care. TEAM UP’s mission is to promote and study fully integrated mental and behavioral healthcare in pediatrics, and it has long included the SWYC in its universal screening guidance for young children.
- Commitment to Advancement: Dr. Sheldrick has been the co-director of TEAM UP’s evaluation team for the past several years and is committed to advancing both SWYC and TEAM UP in the future.
